６月18日（土）、「Plastics, Global Trade and the Environment」の授業の一環（フィールドワーク）で、個人所有、無人島の兜島において環境清掃と海洋ごみ調査を行いました。
日本人学生の他、台湾、タイ、ブラジル、メキシコ、ブルンジ、パプアニューギニア、韓国出身の留学生を含む受講生等12人を引率して参加しました。
参加者の総数は一般ボランティア等含めて約30人でした。濃霧のため、出港は２時間延期となりましたが、参加者のやる気はくじけませんでした。
６チームに分かれて、およそ１時間の活動を実施し、45キロ強、30袋の海洋ごみを回収できました。
ごみとして多かった品目は、カキ養殖用パイプ（581個）と他のプラスチック／発泡スチロール包装（334個）、飲料用ペットボトル（256本）であり、合計2,415個を記録しました。
学生とボランティアが一体となって、環境やお互いの文化について、多くのことを学びながら有意義な一日を過ごしました。
Conducted an environmental cleanup and survey fieldwork (in relation to the 'Plastics, Global Trade and the Environment' class) on 18th June 2022 (Sat) at uninhabited, privately-owned Kabuto Island.
There was a total of over 30 volunteers, including 12 students from Taiwan, Thailand, Brazil, Mexico, Burundi, Papua New Guinea, Korea, and Japan.
Heavy fog delayed the boat departure by two hours.
Still, that did not damp the enthusiasm of the students and other participants.
The cleanup and survey were conducted via six teams, each consisting of two students and one volunteer.
In about one hour, the teams managed to collect about 30 bags of marine garbage, weighing over 45 kilograms.
The top three items collected were oyster farm pipes (581 pieces), other plastic/foam packaging (334 pieces), and plastic beverage bottles (256). A total of 2415 garbage pieces were collected.
The students and the volunteers intermingled with one another, spending a fruitful day together learning many lessons about the environment and about each other's cultures.
