Where to Shop
-A supermarket called “Michael“ also known as “Power City” is located near the international house.
-There are many 100-yen shops in Takamatsu city such as “Daiso”.
-You may ask your student tutor to accompany you for shopping during your first week of arrival.

Going to Kotoden Yashima Train Station (follow green path on the map)
Take the small path between the tennis court and the Yashima Ryo. At the end of the path, turn right and follow the street. After crossing the track, turn right again. You can see the station when you cross the track. For train to Kawaramachi direction, you have to cross the track again after going through the railway building.

Dormitory Rules

Kitchen
Wipe fan, counter and gas stove. Do not leave oil stains.
Do not leave pots and pans on counter or in the sink. Put them back after use.
Clean table after use. If you have leftovers, keep them in fridge in your room.
Store cooking tools, seasonings, ingredients and dishes in your room or shelf in the kitchen.
Those using the shelf in the kitchen should consider others and do not use too much space.

Laundry Room
Bring your own detergents.
After using washing machine, clean the lint filter.
Remove your laundry from machine as soon as washing is done.

Shower Room
Do not keep your things in shower room.
After using shower, clean the space you used.
Be aware of overflow.

Entertainment Room
After using the room, put back chairs, desks and all ping-pong equipments in original place.
Switch off air conditioner and lights.
Lock windows before leaving the room.
Eating is not allowed in the room.

Others
Take off your shoes while you are inside the dormitory building.
After taking them off, shoes must be stored in shoebox. Do not leave them in the entrance hall.
Park your bike and bicycle in the designated parking lot.
Check your mail box every day.
If you receive parcel, house manager will put it into your room.
Pets are not allowed.
Do not skip cleaning duty.
Visitors are not allowed to enter second floor or above, or stay overnight in the house.
Smoking is strictly banned in the dormitory building (Please smoke outside).

Cleaning duty

Every week, one resident will be on cleaning duty. The house manager will put a notice on the bulletin board and also put a memo together with garbage bag in the mail box of the person who will be on cleaning duty next.

Garbage
When you are on cleaning duty, you have to clear garbage can which is placed next to the kitchen.

もえるごみ/燃えるゴミ means burnable waste
ぷらすちっくごみ/プラスチックゴミ means plastic garbage
かん・びん・ぺっとぼとる/カン・ビン・ペットボトル means cans, glass jars, PET bottles

Usually garbage collection is two times for burnable waste and one time for plastic garbage in one week. You have to change garbage bag and bring the old bag to the trash box outside the dormitory. You have to do this by 9 AM on collection days.

Cans, glass jars and PET bottles are collected twice a month. Residents have to keep them in room and bring them out to the trash box on the day of collection.

Cleaning
During the week of your cleaning duty, you must make sure all the public areas including hallway, kitchen floor, laundry room and shower room are kept neat and clean. When you see these places untidy or not clean, you must ask responsible residents to clean them properly. You must also conduct following tasks when you are on cleaning duty.

- Hallways and Floors
Sweep with a broom or vacuum-clean.

- Kitchen
Remove oil stains from wall, fan, microwave counter and stoves.
Wipe tables and keep the counter tidy.

- Laundry Room
Clean around washing machine.
Mop the floor.
Clean the drain.

- Shower room
Mop the floor.
Scrub shower room and bathtub.
Get rid of mold.
Clean the floor.

You will find cleaning tools in the laundry room.
Return the tools after use.
Wash and dry the mop and change the paper bag inside of vacuum cleaner.

By end of Sunday, cleaning duty will be passed to the next resident.

Paying for Rent

Every month, you will find a bill for your monthly rent in your mail box. You must pay the rent within 7 days. Give cash to house manager or put cash in an envelope and drop it in the manager’s office through the window or place the envelope in your room and leave a note in the manager’s mail box.
Do not place cash in the manager’s mail box because everyone can see inside the box.

Paying for Gas, Water and Electricity

About every 2 months, you will find a bill for gas, water and electricity in your mail box. You must pay the fee within 7 days. Payment method is the same of the rent.

Applying for Internet Application

1. Notify dormitory manager that you want to have an internet connection in your room. You will get equipments and documents with explanations about how to configure your installation.

2. At this point, you will be given a free internet connection for 10 days only.

3. Open a Japanese bank account with the help of your student tutor and deposit enough amount to pay the initial fee and the first month of connection fee. Credit card payment is also available.

4. Fill in the application form and send it to the internet provider without delay. (Put only the application form in the envelope that is given with internet application equipments and documents).

5. After application process completes, you will receive the completed registration and instructions for internet connection service.

Living Costs

If you are staying in the international house, monthly living cost will be around 70,000 Yen on average.
If you are staying in a private apartment, monthly living cost will be around 100,000 Yen on average.

Campus cafeteria
If you eat in the campus cafeteria, you will pay around 500 to 600 Yen per meal. It really depends on what you eat. You can bring your own food and heat it up in microwave in the cafeteria.

Buying food and drinks
In Japan, milk products and meat are a bit expensive.

Tips for Your First Week

* Bring enough money in cash. You have to buy pass for bus and train, or rent/purchase a bicycle.
* You will also buy necessary things for living, so you need more money in your first few weeks.
* Bring 2 ID pictures for administration processes.
* You can change travellers check at the Takamatsu Chuo Post Office in downtown.
* With a credit card, you can withdraw cash at the post office. The nearest post office with ATM from the international house is located on the map below. Handling fee for cash withdrawal may be applied. Some credit cards are with limitation on withdrawal amount per day.
