Japanese climate is generally mild, and the seasons are comparatively differentiable in some regions. The year is generally divided into four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. The Japanese people have cherished a seasonal sense, seasonal festivals and commemorative events, etc. for a long time.Although a calendar year begins in January, an academic and a fiscal year in Japan begin in April when the cherry trees are in bloom and end in the following March. Entrance into schools and companies as well as promotions and advancements take place mostly in April. April and May in Japan are usually relatively warm with pleasant weather. June and July are the rainy season. Rain falls for several consecutive days, so there is considerable dampness and mold grows easily.Apparently many foreigners at first get annoyed by high humidity rather than high temperature during the summer in Japan.
The temperature gradually drops in the autumn, and the leaves of many trees turn colors and fall.During the winter, in some regions of Japan, a considerable amount of snow falls and it stays on the ground for months. However, in Kagawa Prefecture snow usually falls about two or three times per winter and does not remain on the ground for long.
Kagawa Prefecture is located in the north east of Shikoku which is in south west in Japan. Kagawa is crescent shaped, the smallest prefecture in Japan, approximately 92 kilometers from east to west, and 61 kilometers from north to south. In the south of the Prefecture there is the lush, green Sanuki mountain range and the Sanuki plains gently incline towards the north, while the northern part of the Prefecture faces the Seto Inland Sea. Kagawa has around 690 kilometers of coastline and the nearby sea is dotted with around 110 islands, which creates a very beautiful landscape. The area enjoys the so-called "Inland sea climate" which means that it is mild throughout the year and has little rainfall. Kagawa enjoys more than 2100 hours of sunshine per year, with an average annual rainfall of just 1100 mm.
