The Seto Inland Sea Regional
Research Center, Kagawa
University, was established on
March 1, 2009. The purpose of
our research is to investigate
and find solutions to the
various problems existing in
and around the Seto Inland
Sea Region. The center is
striving not only to report research results, but also to contribute to revitalization of society. Based on these academic and social views, the objective of the center also includes development of research as part of the local heritage. As such, it is something that must be cherished and conserved along with the environment and beautiful nature of the Seto Inland Sea Region to be passed on to future generations.
In addition, the center is active in contributing to the promotion of regional industry and improving health care for regional people. Our hope is that the region will develop and the people of the area live in comfort.
Thus the goal of the center is to become an academic focal point of the Seto Inland Sea Region through both natural and social scientific investigations.
The center consists of three research fields. 1 Marine environment research 2 Culture, tourism and history researches 3 Telemedicine research
The organization of the center is as follows.
The marine station of Seto Inland Sea Regional Research Center is located at the tip of peninsula, the northernmost tip of Shikoku. There are many sand beaches and rocky places in the surroundings, and it is blessed with the natural environment.
The Marine station is a base of sea education and research at Kagawa University. We have research vessels called "Calanus III" (19 tons) and "No Prius II" (1.1 tons)
The station conducts analysis and experiments on oceanographic observations and surveys on the ships. There are various instruments to analyze and to observe sea nutrients, total nitrogen, phosphorus, etc. These research vessels are being effectively utilized for studying eutrophication of the sea, poor oxygen water mass, aquaculture fishing ground environment, tideland environment. In addition, it is used for the seaside practice of agricultural department, engineering department, faculty of education etc.
